Business Network members sometimes forget exactly what business is produced by their attendance – especially when it’s 2nd or 3rd hand. I picked up a media training job from AMEC about 7 years ago when they were members. This produced several days’ work. They left the network shortly afterwards but my name was passed on to another part of the AMEC empire 3 years ago when they needed someone to provide presentation and networking skills training to a team bidding for a Government contract worth £1.2billion. It was a joint bid with another big construction company, Mowlem, who asked me to help with yet another bid that they were making for a similar contract worth £900million. Three years passed. Then one of the people on the AMEC team from 3 years back called me last month out of the blue to ask if I would provide presentation skills training for a joint UK-US team bidding for another Government contract worth several hundred million pounds.
